Early Saturday morning Jan. 19th, Wanda Denhalter was laying in her bed at her home in St. George, Utah when she heard a rumbling.  Denhalter had just woken up to investigate the noise when a boulder came crashing through her bedroom.

The 63-year-old woman awoke and had gotten up just in time to avoid the direct path of a boulder, estimated 12 feet long, 9 feet high and 9 feet thick, that roller through her bedroom.  Denhalter is recovering from a broken jaw and sternum resulting from the incident.  Wanda’s husband, Scot Denhalter, was spending the night at his son’s home during the time of the accident.  He told the Salt Lake Tribune“I guess she heard the rumbling as it came down the hill and woke up.  She rolled away from the oncoming noise to my side of the bed. If she had decided to swing her legs over the side of the bed and get up to investigate, it would have killed her.”  Despite her injuries, Wanda managed to make it to a phone to call 911.  The Denhalters had recently moved into the home a month ago, despite Scot’s fears that big rocks from the boulder-laden ridge looming above the back yard could one day become loose and come tumbling down.
