After seven months of dealing with orange cones and detour signs, Cheyenne motorists can finally get down 19th Street.

According to City Engineer John Hall, Phase I of the 19th Street Reconstruction Project reopened to traffic late Friday afternoon.

"Reiman Corp., the general contractor on this project, did a great job managing this project, resulting in the road opening to traffic two weeks ahead of schedule," said Hall.  "The road was scheduled to be reopened on October 30, 2015, and I give Reiman credit for getting this project done in a timely manner, benefiting motorists traveling to and from downtown Cheyenne."

The $3.4 million project, which stretched from Warren Avenue to Morrie Avenue, included drainage and stormwater work; the replacement of sewer and water lines; curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement; replacment of traffic signals at the intersections of 19th Street and Evans Avenue and 20th Street and Evans Avenue; and reconstruction of the roadway.

Construction crews will be on site throughout October completing work on the traffic signals, landscaping and other items outside of the roadway.

Phase II of the project, from Crow Creek to Pioneer Avenue, is currently advertised for bids, with construction expected to begin in early 2016.

Phase III of the project, between Warren Avenue and Carey Avenue, is tentatively scheduled to advertise for bids in early 2016, dependent upon funding. Construction of Phase III would also occur in 2016.
