Michael Wacha allowed just two hits in seven innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals won the N.L. pennant and advanced to the World Series by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-0, in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) on Friday night. Carlos Beltran had three hits and drove in two runs for the Cardinals.

St. Louis will visit the winner of the Boston Red Sox – Detroit Tigers ALCS match-up in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Wacha was named the NLCS Most Valuable Player. He struck out five and walked one on Friday while winning his second game of the series. He threw 13.2 shutout innings with 13 strikeouts in his two starts.

The St. Louis hitters jumped all over Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw. The left-hander was uncharacteristically shaky, throwing 98 pitches before being lifted with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits while striking out five in four-plus innings of work.

Shane Robinson, David Freese, Matt Adams and Yadier Molina each had two hits for the Cardinals, who advanced to their second World Series appearance in three years.
