Six sex offenders were arrested and warrants were requested for three others during a Laramie County sex offender sweep conducted last week, according to Captain Linda Gesell of the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

The sweep was part of Operation Jessica, which is sponsored by the U.S. Marshals Service.  She says the operation was a joint effort involving the sheriff's department, Cheyenne Police Department,  Marshals Service, the Department of Probation and Parole, and the state Division of Criminal Investigation. (DCI).

Gesell says the six people arrested were violating the registered sex offender laws in some way, as were the three people for whom warrants were requested. One offender was de-registered.

A total of 335 registered sex offenders were living in Laramie County at the time of the sweep, according to Gesell.

Of that number 249 were required to sign verification forms. Gesell says the task force wasn't able to find 44 sex offenders and is still working on contacting them.
