4 Ways to Celebrate May Day in Cheyenne
Do you do anything to celebrate May Day?
I remember a few May Days growing up here in Cheyenne when kids would leave baskets of flowers on your porch. Ever danced around a May Pole?

Dance Around The May Pole
The earliest May Day celebrations were the Roman Festival of Flora where they honored the Goddess of Flowers. They would erect a May Pole, sometimes an old ship mast, and attach ribbons, then dance in a choreographed pattern to create designs on the pole. During the Middle Ages, almost every town in England had a May Pole.
Have you ever danced around one?

Do the Morris Dance
The Morris Dance is an English folk dance usually performed on May Day. The dancers traditional wardrobe includes hats with flowers, suspenders and ankle bells. They dance and stomp, waving their handkerchiefs and banging their long sticks together. They create rhythmic beats while dancing.
You could make your own costumes and create your own dance moves to welcome the coming of spring.

Deliver Some May Baskets
Have you ever had a May Basket show up at your door?
When I lived near Pioneer Park School, some of the kids made construction paper flowers in baskets and delivered them to the surrounding neighborhood. The kids would knock on the door or ring the bell, leave the basket and run away to surprise the home owner with a spring time gift.

Build a May Day Snowman
Since Mother Nature has given Cheyenne the gift of snow for May Day, maybe get out and build a May Day snowman. You could incorporate some flowers, grass and other natural elements and help to ward off ol' man winter like the Pagans of old did when they would celebrate on the first day of May.
