From underground tunnels and ghosts, to mysterious noises and UFO's, Cheyenne has accumulated some creepy stories!

1. Strange Noises At Night

Last summer hundreds of Cheyenne residents reported hearing strange, siren-like, screeching sounds during the night. Many speculated it was the Union Pacific rail line, but why did these noises only appear during the night when trains ran all day? A few days later the noises were heard by residents in Laramie, 45 minutes west of Cheyenne. Luckily the noise seemed to disappear within a few days and we all slept better.

2. The Ghost Of F.E. Warren Air Force Base

Dozens of creepy, unexplained, events have taken place at F.E. Warren Air Force Base since the 1860's. Many visitors have quizzed the base about "the cavalrymen dressed in uniform who patrol the base at night." The base denies anyone works there dressed in this uniform. Ghostly figures of a Native American woman and a nurse are also regular visitors.

3. Cheyenne's Underground Tunnel Network

As the railroad emerged in Cheyenne in the late 1800's, a series of underground tunnels were constructed connecting to the Depot building in downtown Cheyenne. Employees and tunnel visitors have reported hearing strange noises for over 100 years. The most commonly heard is the sound of loud footsteps. Paranormal investigators have attempted to explore the tunnels, but are turned away at the cities request due to dangers associated with asbestos.

4. UFO's

Cheyenne has a long history with unidentified flying objects. In 1982 many people spotted a UFO hovering over downtown. Even a Cheyenne Police Department officer spotted the twinkling lights and asked other officers to help identify what it was. The story was picked up by national media, and many reporters flocked to Cheyenne to cover the story. Over the last decade, there have been a number of videos featuring lights in a triangular shape floating over Cheyenne.

5. Murder At The Plains Hotel

Several ghosts are rumored to live at the Plains Hotel in downtown Cheyenne. A handful of different tales have been told explaining the ghosts of the Plains, however the most common is about a woman who murdered her husband when she caught him with another woman in 1911, the same year the Plains opened. Another tale is that a man was pushed out of a window from the 4th floor, falling to his death. Reports of ghostly figures, mysterious noises, and lights flickering on and off make the Plains a fun, and spooky, spot to stay!
