  • Warren Nagle Mansion - In 1888, when Cheyenne was known as one of the richest cities in American, a Colorado businessman named Erasmus Nagle. He was quite successful in the grocery business here in the capital city and dabbled in gold mining in the Black Hills as well. In April 1910, the mansion was sold to Senator F.E. Warren and his family, until his death in 1929. His wife donated the mansion to the local YMCA to help with chaperoned women and social gatherings.
  • Hynds Street - Located next to I-25, just north of the Wyoming Governors Mansion. The street is named after Harry P. Hynds, a young blacksmith from Morris, Illinois who came to Cheyenne in the year 1882. A hard working man, who opened a blacksmith shop, and who enjoyed boxing as his hobby. After a couple of years, he got into the liquor business and a gambling hall. The Capital Bar & Grill was the name of his new endeavor and he and his will Nellie would help to maintain the Plains Hotel.
  • The Magic City of the Plains - There are probably many different ideas as to how Cheyenne acquired this nickname. With the intersecting of what is now I-25 and I-80, the transcontinental railroad and business and cattle baronry popping up, the "magic" in Cheyenne was that this became a thriving city over night.
  • Fort D.A. Russel - The fort was established in 1867, with it's primary purpose to ward off oncoming Native Americans as the transcontinental railroad was being built. Named after David Allen Russel, a civil war general, who lost his life at the Battle of Opequon, which was fought in Winchester, VA on September 19, 1864. In 1949, it became home to and had its name changed to F.E.Warren Air Force Base, and has housed our airmen and women since that time.
  • Reed Ave - Named after the famous military physician Walter Reed, a Major in the United States Army. Dr. Reed did spend some time in the capital city at Ft D.A. Russel in the late 1800's.
