Today is the last day of school for the kids in LCSD#1. Do you have a plan to keep your sanity and keep your kids busy and active during the summer?  I would say that not only your children, but we parents also look forward to the great times that summer time allows for us with our families. But what will you do during this 10 week time of slumber parties, swimming holes, vacations and staying up past bed time?

Let's look at 5 ways to help you book your summer survival book when planning activities and fun for and with your kiddos.

  1. Go Old Skool - Have them "go outside and play." That's a familiar sound that we heard growing up and, believe it or not, it's still a great idea today. Some things we did as kids were "slip-n-slids', baseball games, hid and seek or a good, old fashioned water balloon fight. The idea are endless.
  2. Share Your Kids - What can give you some free time is to trade kids with neighbors and family members. Maybe you have a sleep over and a day of activities one day, grandma takes them to do something another day and then neighbors have your kids over for fun with theirs. Be flexible on this one.
  3. Plan Fun Themes - You could do a craft making pirate ships or princess castles and create meals and costumes around them. Also, you could do some fun activities to coincide with the theme. Vacation Bible Schools are good examples of how to do this.
  4. Free Days & Free Nights - This is a great way to find out what your kids would like to do. Maybe take in a fun movies, miniature golf, roller skating, or even a fun "game" night and sleep over with friends.
  5. Book Ahead Of Time - You can have a fun-filled summer with your kids, however in all of your planning, ensure that you plan some down time as well. Just days when you'll chill out. You don't have to be involved every minute of the day. There are many things that you and your family and kids can do throughout the dog days of summer.

There are other fun things to plan. Summer day camp outings, coloring book days, library days, and museum trips. Going to a water park or a golf and arcade and amusement park could be other options to get you through the summer. Have a wonderful summer!
