I think it is safe to say that hackers and scammers are the new normal when it comes to our hand held devices. You don't have to be a victim to these criminals any longer.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has come out, identified and is giving you the tools to avoid being the next victim of a text message scam.

So-called "Bank Alerts" are the next scam that may come to a Smart phone near you. These text messages are coming in the form of a text and seem to look like a legitimate warning from your bank, but they are not.

Here are 5 ways for you to avoid being the next victim of these merciless hackers and scammers. Take heed to the warning now and avoid the disappointments later.

1. Hit Delete - Don't even entertain this kind of destructive non-sense. Watch out for the "confirmation" screens that they say they have to get you to cave in and be hacked. Just delete the crazy thing.
2. Phone Bill - Make sure you take the time to read your phone bill. You could have services on your bill that you didn't order. This is another way they grab your information and make money off of you.
3. Phony URL's - They now have URL's (Uniform Resource Locator) that look like the real thing, but are not. Just because the URL seems to have the name of a company you are familiar with on it, doesn't mean it is them.
4. Block Third Party Charges - If you call your phone company, you can request that they remove any third party charges. They should do this for you absolutely free.
5. Know Your Rights - Avoid the outhouse lawyers that think they know what you rights are and find out for yourself and be sure. Real text messages from legitimate companies must provide free and easy ways for you to opt out of any communications that may come to you in the future.
