When summer time finally comes around we know there are visitors that come with it. Mosquitoes are big pest, but there are natural ways to avoid these biters.  Many people, this time of year people buy products to help alleviate the potential of mosquito bites on themselves and their kiddos.

Contrary to popular belief, mosquitoes are not attracted to light so much, therefore bug zappers won't help much. One thing that mosquitoes are attracted to is the carbon dioxide that we breathe out.

You probably aren't too big on chemicals that you're unsure of, to put on you to avoid these little pests. Here are some natural solutions to help fight them off this summer.

  1. Eliminate Any Standing Water - This is a high breeding ground for mosquito larvae. If you have old tires laying around the yard with water in them, dump them out. Or that old inflatable pool that the kids quit using a few years ago that's gathered old water, throw it out.
  2. Hang A Bat Box - Attracting bats is a great way to eat up mosquito's before they eat you up. Hang a bat box on the south east side of your house. Preferably up near the top of the gable end. They eat about 1,000 mosquitoes a night.
  3. Mosquito Repellent Drink - You can make your own "home-made" potion to ward off mosquitoes, or so people say. Simply add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 16oz of water and swig it down. You can sweeten the experience by adding honey.
  4. Eat A Lot of Garlic - Mosquitoes aren't the only thing that eating a lot of garlic will repel. Your BBQ guest, kids and even the dog will high tail it away from you, but so will the mosquitoes. Choose your battles wisely.
  5. Throw Rosemary On The Barbie - No, not your neighbor Rosemary, but the spice. While doing so, you can transform your common BBQ grill into a giant mosquito repelling machine. Plus they add great flavor to your brats and burgers.

There are other things you can do to naturally repel mosquitoes like repellent plants, home-made Citronella candles and lavender. You choose your weapon and tell us how it goes in the comments section below.
