This year’s Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual telethon raised a whopping $52.3 MILLION over the Labor Day Weekend.

The two hour telethon, “MDA Show of Strength,” aired on ABC this past Sunday, and although organizers reached this tally, they’re still excepting donations through Monday, September 1st, and a final tally will be announced on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Several artists were on hand to help out the MDA telethon, including Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Bret Michaels, Fall Out Boy and more, with their stellar performances serving as inspiration for viewers to call in with their donations.

If you’ve ever known anyone who have suffered from Muscular Dystrophy, you know how debilitating this disease can be, not only for the victims, but their families as well.   My husband's sister Shirley has suffered with this muscle destroying disease for years, and is now bedridden.  Every penny can make a difference in finding a cure for this disease that robs people of their motor skills, and eventually, their lives.

There’s still time to help by giving to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, by helping our firefighters fill the boot!  You’ll still see Cheyenne Firefighters out and about today until 5 p.m. collecting dollars and filling as many firefighter boots as they can to reach their goal of collecting $30,000.

This campaign is a partnership between the International Association of Firefighters,(IAFF) and Muscular Dystrophy Association.(MDA)  Please look for our local firefighters who will be all over Cheyenne until 5 p.m. today, and give them your donations, or you can still donate to the MDA telethon by calling 1-800-Fight-MD, (1-800-344-4863) or donate online at mda.org/showofstrength
