Bohl Aims For ”Return To National Prominence”

New University of Wyoming Head Football Coach Craig Bohl said Monday his long-term goal is to return the Cowboy football program to national prominence.

He adds that will be an on-going process. But he says it starts with Saturday's home game against the University of Montana Grizzlies.

Bohl says the Cowboys offense will feature a "pro style" attack similar to what NFL teams use. He says that will require a quarterback who can make good decisions, run the offense and pass effectively. Colby Kirkegaard, a 6'3 Senior is penciled in as the starter, replacing Brett Smith who left school a year early.

Bohl says that although he and his staff had concerns about the quarterback situation coming in, Kirkegaard, who was third on the depth chart last year, has been learning quickly and has shown a lot of progress.

Bohl says on defense the pokes will feature the ''Tampa 2" defense made famous by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Head Coach Tony Dungy and Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin. The Tampa 2 typically features two safeties in deep coverage to prevent big plays. It also puts a premium on fast players who can  tackle well as opposed to sheer size.

The Cowboys open their season at home Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Montana Grizzlies.
