A teenage girl who reported she was abducted at knifepoint and sexually assaulted north of Rock Springs two weeks ago has now admitted the incident never happened, according to a spokesman for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department.

Dick Blust says investigators grew increasingly skeptical of her version of events, and re-questioned her after crime lab results related to the alleged crime became available. The girl finally admitted that she had made the whole thing up, according to Blust. She had originally claimed that she had been abducted by a man in a pickup while jogging and that the kidnapper had then driven her into the desert and sexually assaulted her.

She claimed he then left her on foot. The girl's name has not been released because of her age, and Blust says the case has been referred to the Sweetwater County Attorney's office for consideration of False Reporting to Authorities charges.
