A new fire station at Archer is one step closer to reality.

Laramie County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $49,925 agreement with SEH, Inc. for phase one design services for a joint fire station which would house Fire Districts 1 & 2 at the Archer Complex.

Commissioner Amber Ash says the design is roughly 35 percent complete.

"They'll have meetings with all of the interested parties as well as public meetings to get the basic design and layout and evaluate a couple of different sites out at Archer where we could potentially place it to maximize response time and make sure it meets the needs for everybody that's involved," said Ash.

Ash says AMR has expressed interest in adding an ambulance bay and the Sheriff's Department may also want to have some functions at the complex.

The Commission is looking at an economic development grant to help fund the project.
