With a career-threatening vocal problem in the distance, Art Garfunkel is returning to the stage. The singer announced a series of concerts to take place in early 2014.

Beginning Jan. 30, Garfunkel will play two nights at the Franklin Theater in Franklin, Tenn. After that, he is booked to play seven more shows in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, ending on Feb. 28 at the Concert Hall in Ponte Vedra, Fla. The dates are listed below, but he is expected to announce more concerts as they are confirmed.

In 2010, Garfunkel was diagnosed with vocal cord paresis, which forced the cancellation of a proposed Simon & Garfunkel tour at the time, and a solo tour in 2012. He was given a clean bill of health earlier this year, and has since made intermittent appearances, most recently in mid-December in Cleveland and Cincinnati.

However, one of those comeback performances did not go as planned. During a concert this past June in Great Neck, N.Y. - not too far from Garfunkel’s native Forest Hills, Queens - he walked off-stage when a man in the front row began using his cell phone. After 10 minutes and an apology from the man, who was a local government official, Garfunkel returned to the stage to complete his performance.
