Ash Questions Addiction Argument Against Lottery
Laramie County Commissioner Amber Ash says she’s not sure one of the main arguments opponents of a lottery in Wyoming have been using–that it encourages people with a gambling addiction to waste money– is true.
Ash says her understanding is that people who are addicted to gambling normally indulge in games that provide instant gratification, rather indulging in a lottery, where the outcome may not be known for several days. Ash says in any case, most state residents already have access to gambling in some form, including, in many cases, lotteries in other states such as Colorado.
Ash says the lottery bill currently being considered in the legislature would bring in anywhere between $800,000 and $1.4 million to Laramie County as it’s portion from the money collected by the state through the lottery.
