The San Diego State Aztecs used an early 22-2 run to take control and rolled past the Wyoming Cowboys, 67-41, Wednesday night in California.

The game was tied at 3-3, when the Aztecs exploded and knocked down four 3-point field goals. San Diego State build a 25-5 lead in the first ten minutes. The lead reached 29 at one point of the second half.

Wyoming (19-6, 8-4) was led by Derek Cooke Jr. with 13 points and six rebounds. Josh Adams added 12 points.

The Cowboys were held to a season-low 14 points in the first half and a season-low 41 for the game. They shot only 35 percent from the field. That included a measly 3-26, or 11.5 percent, from beyond the arc.

San Diego State (19-6, 9-3) took over first place in the Mountain West men's basketball standings behind 18 points apiece from Winston Shepard and Aqeel Quinn.

By contrast, the Aztecs shot 44 percent from the field and went 10-for-20 from deep. They also capitalized with 16 points off 13 UW turnovers.

It's the first time the Pokes have lost back-to-back games this season. They've dropped into a third place tie in the MW standings with Colorado State. The Cowboys did play without senior Larry Nance Jr. for a second straight game.

Wyoming will look to bounce back Saturday versus San Jose State at the Arena Auditorium in Laramie. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
