Back to Square One On Public Safety Building

Former Dinneen Car Dealership (Doug Randall/tsm)

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says Monday’s decision by the Cheyenne City Council not to purchase the former Dinneen Car Dealership in downtown Cheyenne for a new Public Safety Building means the city will have to go back to the drawing board in finding a location  for the facility.

Council members Monday night voted 5-5 on the Dineen’s purchase, with opponents saying the city should not pay the $1.986 Million dollar asking price, which was about 20 percent above the appraised value of the property. Kaysen says the city will now have to find a  new location which meets the criteria for the site, including enough space to house the $25 million dollar facility, which would house the Cheyenne Police Department as well as the administration for Cheyenne Fire and Rescue and local emergency responders.

Kaysen says the new site also likely won’t allow the city to build onto an existing structure, as would have been the case with the Dinneen’s property.
