Wyoming has a reputation of world class fishing. On June 24th, 2017, Christian Cosby of Rock Springs was fishing on Flaming Gorge Reservoir when he caught a record 28.52 pound channel catfish. What a monster! But, it’s not the biggest fish ever landed in Wyoming. So, what is?

According to Wyoming Game and Fish, the record for the biggest fish ever caught in Wyoming is a tie. One was the 50lb Lake Trout that Green River’s Randy Calkins pulled out of Flaming Gorge Reservoir back in 1995. The other was the 50lb Lake Trout caught in Jackson Lake, that belonged to Doris Budge in 1983. While both weighed the same, Randy’s trophy trout was 3” longer at 48 inches.

In both cases, that’s a lot of fish sticks for dinner.

Here’s to the sportsmen who respect and appreciate our resources and keep the fisheries healthy.
