In the United Stated, MTV has the annual VMAs. In Europe, the music channel has the EMAs, and this year's nominations have just been announced. Among the contenders are Black Sabbath, Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age and Linkin Park.

Green Day were nominated in three categories: Best Live, Best Rock and Best World Stage. They'll battle Black Sabbath in the Rock category and Linkin Park in the World Stage category. The other Rock nominees are Kings of Leon, Queens of the Stone Age and the Killers.

Best Live is an eclectic category, with Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Pink and Taylor Swift going up against Green Day. In addition to traditional categories, the EMAs feature more unique prizes like Best Look and Biggest Fans.

30 Seconds To Mars also garnered three nominations, including the aforementioned Biggest Fans along with Best Alternative. They are also up for Best Video for the song 'Up In the Air.' They recently won 'Best Rock Video' for that song on the MTV VMAs, but their award wasn't included in the main broadcast.

Frontman Jared Leto wasn't happy about it. “Rock n’ roll music deserves a place there,” Leto told the Huffington Post. “I don’t think people will be bored by it.” He continued, saying, “We live in a world right now that seems to want to be anesthetized, that seems to want to just feel one thing, it’s this slight sedation.”

This year is the 20th anniversary of the EMAs. They will be held at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on Nov. 10. The winners of the awards will be chosen by the fans, and voting is open now through Nov. 8. Vote in the MTV EMA Awards here.
