Cheyenne Central Operating Normally After Bomb Threat [UPDATED]

UPDATE: More details have now been released on a bomb threat received this morning at Central High School in Cheyenne. LCSD#1 spokeswoman Mary Quast says both Central High School and the adjacent McCormick Junior High were immediately placed on lockdown status as soon as the threat was received at 11:40 a.m.

Quast says 9-1-1 was immediately called and police searched the building and the adjacent campus area, finding nothing indicating a bomb or any kind of other safety threat. The lockdown was lifted at 12:15 and normal operations resumed. Quast says school district procedures don't automatically call for student evacuation, because that can present a risk to safety if an armed intruder is in the area.

Laramie County School District#1 spokeswoman Mary Quast released this statement early Monday afternoon:

"An automated bomb threat was called in to Central High School at approximately 11:40 a.m. Authorities were called and all safety protocol were implemented. Due to its proximity to the situation, safety procedures were implemented at McCormick Junior High. Law enforcement assessed the situation and the school was cleared at 12:15 p.m. for standard operations. The Cheyenne Police Department is further investigating the incident."
