The Wyoming Cowboys got the ‘Boot’ back Saturday night. The Pokes won the 108th Border War 38-17 over Colorado State in Fort Collins.

Brian Hill ran for 166 yards and a touchdown, as the Cowboys snapped a three-game losing streak in the series. On a 39-yard burst in the second quarter Hill became Wyoming’s all-time leading rusher. He surpassed Devin Moore (2005-08), who ran for 2,964 yards in his career. Hill is now at 3,056 yards in his career. This performance marked the 14th game of his career where Hill went over 100-yards.

Cowboys’ head coach Craig Bohl said in a release from the university,

“We had an intense week of practice. There were elements of the game that were huge, including special teams. Ethan (Wood) had a great night punting and Austin (Conway) was solid in the return game. The offensive line did a great job to provide holes for the running backs and even Josh (Allen).”

Wyoming (3-2, 1-0) trailed 14-3 early in the second quarter. They responded with a 5-yard TD run by Shaun Wick right after Hill set the career rushing record. On the next play from scrimmage, Marcus Epps forced and recovered a fumble at the Colorado State 30-yard line. The next offensive play by UW saw Josh Allen connect with Tanner Gentry on a 30-yard double reverse touchdown pass for a 17-14 lead.

The Rams drove into Cowboy territory when defensive tackle Chase Appleby picked off CSU QB Collin Hill and returned it 55-yards for a touchdown. A Ram field goal at half cut it to 24-17 Pokes at the break.

In the second half, Brian Hill powered in from one-yard out. Then, Allen added an 18-yard TD run on a QB draw with seven seconds left in the third quarter. That made it 38-17 and capped the scoring. Wyoming concluded the game on a 35-3 run.

The Cowboys ran for 269 yards and threw for 165 for a total of 434 yards offense. UW’s defense allowed 481 yards to CSU, but came up with the game’s only two takeaways. Andrew Wingard led the Wyoming defense with 17 tackles, including a sack.

Colorado State (2-3, 0-1) quarterback Collin Hill threw for 370 yards with a TD and an interception. He was sacked three times.

This is the first win on the road in the Border War for UW since 2011.

The Cowboys will host Air Force in their Homecoming game next Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m.
