Did you know that early homesteaders on the plains lived in houses made of sod?

No trees had been planted yet, so settlers heading west used what there was a lot of, grass, to create a shelter.

You can help construct a sod wall tomorrow, June 16, at the Paul Smith Children's Village, part of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, in Lions Park. The sod wall construction is 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and it's free as part of the 'Summer of Power' Series of programs sponsored by Cheyenne  Light, Fuel and Power Company.

Children will learn the simple techniques of building a sod wall and will assist in the design and construction of a traditional sod wall.

Get active and get your hands dirty for free at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens Children's Village.
