The San Francisco 49ers agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for draft picks. Smith was replaced midseason by Colin Kaepernick, who led the Niners to the Super Bowl, so he’s probably happy to have a shot at a starting job again. [S.F. Chronicle]

At the just-concluded NFL combine, Manti Te’o was in the news as much for his slower-than-expected 40 time as he was for rumors that NFL teams were asking about his sexuality. The league will investigate what it called “impermissible” questions about a player at the combine. [Washington Post]

Four University of Alabama players who were charged with robbery have been dismissed from the team. Head coach Nick Saban made the announcement today, saying that Eddie Williams, D.J. Pettway, Tyler Hayes and Brent Calloway “are no longer associated with the football program” or enrolled at the school. [CBS]
