The city of Cheyenne and the Downtown Development Authority are moving ahead with plans for the 17th Street Lighting Project, according to Mayor Rick Kaysen.

Phase one of the project will add pedestrian lighting from Carey Avenue to Central Avenue.

The mayor says a conceptual design is being developed right now, and the final design phase should get underway soon. After that bids will be taken for work on Phase 1.

The project is being paid for with sixth-penny sales tax money, and the cost of Phase 1 is projected at $700,000, with work expected to get underway later this year.

Future phases of the project may include such thing as streetscapes, sidewalk repair and other improvements, with possible construction to get underway next year.
