The Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s Niki Rose stopped by our studios to update us on the latest happenings there. The first thing I noticed was the big smile on her face for winning The WTE Readers’ Choice Award for Best Non Profit. I’m glad to see the recognition of appreciation and get some good news in a sometimes difficult dynamic.

I think the staff must have a hard time forgetting some of the sad stories that come with a job that has more in need of adoption than adopters, but they can celebrate this award and the successful connections they have made. I know they work very hard taking care of animals and take pride in connecting humans and furry and feathered creatures. Now, they have a new addition that needs a home and it has neither feathers, fur nor fins.

The shelter has an Iguana named Marley that needs a loving home. While my choice in pets doesn't include a four foot long lizard, but if you can love on this Iguana, this girl is up for adoption. She’s vegetarian and needs sunlight or artificial sunlight in order to survive and thrive and can be yours. There are also a good variety of more traditional pets looking to love you.

CAS can always use pet food donations or cash. Another way to support them is the upcoming Fur Ball on April 9th at Little America. This year’s gala theme is Fur Ball: Hairy Potter and the Sorcerer's Bone, in support of the animals and programs of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

“These funds allow us to maintain critical programs to care for and protect homeless and unwanted animals in our community, ensure that all animals adopted from our shelter are spayed or neutered, investigate animal cruelty and neglect and to provide funding for low-cost spay/neutering through our Big Fix program.”

Thanks for caring for the animals CAS.
