A “topping out” ceremony will be held at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, 710 South Lions Park Drive, at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26th to mark the finish of the new building’s structural steel installation.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony. The ceremony will be held south of the construction site in Lions Park. Those attending the event should wear shoes that are appropriate for a construction site and weather conditions. Those attending should follow signs on where to park.

The ceremony will include the placement of the last beam of structural steel into position on top of the building. Please arrive early if you would like to sign the beam. The signed steel beam will be raised by a crane and bolted in position where it will become a permanent piece of history.

The renovation and expansion of the Botanic Gardens in Lions Park was approved by voters on the 2012 Specific Purpose Tax Ballot (commonly known as the Sixth Penny Tax). The total cost of the project is $16 million with $14 million set aside for construction. The remaining funds will be used for operations and maintenance.

Phase I, which is the construction of the new Botanic Gardens, will be completed in 2016. The renovation of the current Botanic Gardens facility is expected to be completed in 2017.
