Cheyenne  Mayor Marian Orr celebrated the 150th anniversary of Cheyenne's incorporation with the dedication of a time capsule on Tuesday morning.

Cheyenne was named as a community on July 4, 1867. But the community was not officially incorporated until Aug. 8 of that year.

The mayor said Tuesday morning that the time capsule will be opened on the two-hundredth anniversary of the incorporation on August 8, 2067.

While the contents of the capsule were not displayed at Tuesday's ceremony, the mayor said it included pictures and letters from local children, memorabilia from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, F.E. Warren Air Force Base and a wide range of other items representing important segments of the city.

While the ceremony was held at Cheyenne's David R. Romero Park, the capsule was not buried in the park. It will instead be stored at Cheyenne city hall for safe keeping until 2067.

Tuesday's event planned this week in honor of the city's 150th anniversary.
