The Cheyenne City Council Monday night unanimously approved the appointment of Jeff White to fill the Ward I council seat left vacant after the death of Jimmy Valdez.

Ward I Council Members Scott Roybal and Annette Williams nominated White following a final round of interviews on November 10.

"It's still kind of a surreal experience for me," said White. "Even though I've done a lot of volunteer work, it's a little different sitting on the other side of the fence so to speak."

White says his top three priorities will be addressing potential revenue shortfalls, revitalizing downtown and examining the recruitment and retention of city employees.

"There's a lot of issues facing the City of Cheyenne and so we're going to need to work together to solve them," said White. "I feel extremely fortunate and I'm just going to work as hard as I can for the folks in Ward I and the community of Cheyenne."

White will serve the remainder of Valdez’s term which expires in January 2017.
