Help make Friday the 13th a little brighter day for the disadvantaged in our community, by supporting the Sixth Annual Cheyenne Day of Giving.

The Day of Giving is a chance for members of the community led by area congregations, businesses and community groups to team up and provide help and support for the sick and economically disadvantaged of our community.

The main event will again be at the Kiwanis Community House in Lions Park this year, and a telephone hotline for monetary donations has been set up, as well.

As always, there is a wide range of ways to help. Non-perishable food and personal care items are always needed, and these are distributed to community charities according to need. Unused prescription medication can be donated for distribution to those who cannot afford to purchase their own medicines. Lightly used and durable medical equipment, such as walkers, shower chairs, wheelchairs and the such are always in high demand. And the Cheyenne Lions Club is always accepting used eyeglasses and over-the-ear hearing aids.

The Day of Giving also encourages other ways to help. United Blood Services will on hand to accept blood donations, and the organization also encourages folks to register as bone marrow, organ and tissue donors.

If you can't make it or wish to donate online, or are just interested in more information, visit the Day of Giving's website. Telephone donations will be accepted Friday from 9 - 4 by calling 307.747.9130. Join Gailen and KING at the Community House, broadcasting live, from 10-noon! We hope to see you there, helping us help Cheyenne.
