In the Spring of 2014, Union Pacific Railroad began the restoration of one of the world’s largest steam locomotives – the Big Boy No. 4014. Here, the locomotive is seen in the final minutes of its trip from Colton, California to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where it has undergone the first of an expected 5 year restoration in The Union Pacific Steam Shop. During the 10th Annual Cheyenne Depot Days, the Steam Shop is open to the public. You will be able to see their progress on Big Boy and other engines.

That is just part of the festivities to celebrate our railroad history and benefit The Cheyenne Depot Museum. While Big Boy 4014 is one of the largest locomotives in the world, you can also see some of the smallest, with this event that also features the Sherman Hill Model Railroad Show with miniature layouts, mini-train rides for children and vendors.

Depot Days is centered at The Cheyenne Depot Plaza, 121 W. 15th St. Cheyenne with Trolley access to the UP Steam Shop, Wasatch RR Contractors, and Depot Museum

A $10 wristband will also get you admission to the Sherman Hill Model Railroad Show and trolley bus transportation to and from both events. Children 12 and under are free.
