The Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) has received a grant to develop the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) in Laramie County.

The program, developed by Stanford University’s School of Medicine, is a free six-week Workshop for people with chronic diseases and for caregivers, family members and friends. The program is for adults of any age with any type of chronic health condition such as but not limited to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, fibromyalgia, arthritis, sickle cell and others.

Participants meet in small groups for six weeks. With the help of trained leaders, a workbook, and the support of their peers, participants learn from each other and brainstorm ways to overcome barriers to healthy living, set goals, and report on their progress each week.

Volunteers are needed to serve as Master trainers and or workshop leaders. The first training for Master Trainers will be held in Cheyenne October 26th-30th.

Once trained, the Master Trainers will train leaders who will present the program throughout the community.

For more information on the program or how you can volunteer to be a trainer call Program Coordinator Amy Giglevitch at the Southern Wyoming Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at 635-2435 ext. 11.
