This year's theme is "Here the Beep, Where You Sleep," which focuses on the importance of working smoke alarms in every bedroom.

"We know from studies that fire deaths occur during the evening and nighttime when people are sleeping most prominently, so people need a way to have an early awareness and be alerted to those sorts of emergencies in their house," said Nick Siemens, Fire Prevention Officer. "We're encouraging people to make sure they have a smoke alarm everywhere they need one. Batteries should be changed when they change their clocks and then the smoke alarms should be checked monthly or with the manufacturer's recommendation."

Cheyenne Fire and Rescue will host these different activities throughout the week:

  • October 5: Firefighters will be at Texas Roadhouse, 1931 Bluegrass Circle, from 3:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • October 6-8: Cheyenne Fire & Rescue and the Cheyenne Domino's Pizza stores have teamed up to deliver a safety message and pizza during Fire Prevention Week. Here's how the program works: During pre-selected times throughout Cheyenne, pizza deliveries will be made aboard a fire truck from the local fire station. The participating Domino's Pizza delivery expert will follow the fire truck in his or her vehicle with the pizza order. When the pizza arrives at the customer's home, firefighters will check the home for working smoke alarms. If the smoke alarms work, the customer's order is free. If the batteries are dead, fire personnel will install new batteries. There are two Domino's Pizza stores located in Cheyenne at 3610 Dell Range Blvd., and 511 East Pershing Blvd.
  • October 9: Between 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. firefighters will be reading books to children during story time at the Paul Smith Children's Village in Lions Park.
  • October 10: Fire Safety Open House, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cheyenne Fire & Rescue Training Facility, 7222 Commerce Circle. There will be demonstrations, kids' events, photo opportunities and lots more for all ages. Don't forget to vote for your favorite coloring entry in three different grade divisions. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher, watch firefighters as they demonstrate their many skills, learn the importance of having a working smoke alarm in your residence, why it is important to change your batteries this time of year, find out how easy it is to have a fire safety plan in place, and much more.
