Cheyenne Fire and Rescue will kick off Fire Prevention Week with a free fire safety open house this Saturday.

Prevention Division Lieutenant Steve Zimmerman says the open house will feature everything from kids events to auto extrication demonstrations.

"It's just an opportunity for us to interact with the public," said Zimmerman "Really we want to push home that lives don't need to be lost in fires and that they can be prevented with smoke detectors and good preventative activities."

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cheyenne Fire and Rescue training facility located at 7222 Commerce Circle.
