Cheyenne Fire & Rescue responded to a lightning-caused residential structure fire at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, September 14 at 2101 Plain View Road. Cheyenne firefighters had the fire in the newly constructed home extinguished within minutes of arrival. The fire was contained to the attic and ceiling area. The home was unoccupied when the fire started. Dollar amount damage to the house has yet to be determined. Cheyenne Fire & Rescue responded to the fire with 14 firefighters and five apparatus.

According to Lt. Byron Mathews of Cheyenne Fire & Rescue, damage was limited to the attic and ceiling of the house because an alert neighbor called and reported the lightning strike immediately. No injuries were reported. During the same time period, Cheyenne Fire & Rescue responded to a number of lightning-related calls such as false fire alarms and power outages.
