Cheyenne Lake Ice Deserves Extreme Caution

City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities has announced that ice on some of our lakes may be destabilized by their transfer of water out of Lake Absarracca to Kiwanis Lake and eventually to Sloans Lake.

The BOPU recommends extreme caution when considering an adventure on ice within those three lakes. Ice skating, hockey and ice fishing could be a lot more dangerous than it looks. There are many hidden factors combining to make deadly conditions of foot-thick ice being right next to inches-thin ice and you would never see the difference.

These unstable conditions caused by transferring water from lake to lake should last about two weeks, depending on the weather.
