A Cheyenne man is behind bars after allegedly threatening a store clerk with a screwdriver while demanding cigarettes.

24-year-old William Travelstead was arrested shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, after Laramie County Sheriff deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at the Family Dollar Store on the South Greeley Highway.

Captain Linda Gesell says Travelstead appeared to be drunk when he approached the store clerk and demanded cigarettes.

“The clerk asked him if he had money and he said the cigarettes were free,” said Gesell. ”Mr. Travelstead then pulled a screwdriver from his pocket and threatened the clerk with it. At that time some customers in the store grabbed Mr. Travelstead and took him outside the store where they detained him for a short period of time until the deputies got there.”

Travelstead is being held in the Laramie County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Laramie County Circuit Court.
