A 29-year-old Cheyenne man and a woman from New Mexico died from injuries suffered early this morning (August 10) in a crash on Interstate 80 just west of Cheyenne, according to a spokesman for the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Major Perry Jones says the crash happened just before 4 a.m. five miles west of Cheyenne.

Dustin Lovell of Cheyenne was driving west in a Volkswagen SUV when his vehicle crossed both lanes of I-80 westbound and crashed into a 2009 Kenworth truck and trailer that were parked on the side of the road.

Jones says the Kenworth had its hazard lights flashing at the time.

Lovell's vehicle hit the Kenworth trailer, and both he and his passenger suffered fatal injuries even though they weren't thrown from the vehicle.

The passenger is being identified only as a 29-year-old woman from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jones says the woman's name won't be released until her family can be notified.

Neither Lovell nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts, according to Jones.

Alcohol and drug use are being investigated as possible factors in the crash. The driver of the Kenworth was not injured.
