Cheyenne Mayor: Resignations Won’t Set Back Budget Work

Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr says the resignations of City Treasurer Lois Huff and two other top officials in the treasurer's office shouldn't have too much impact on work on the city's Fiscal Year 2018 budget.

Huff, who has served as City Treasurer for the past decade, submitted her resignation on Thursday with the intention of it becoming effective on May 5. But on Friday the mayor decided to terminate Huff as of 5 p.m. that day.

Huff's resignation letter gave few details other than to say she had enjoyed working for the city and planned May 5 as her final day.

Assistant City Treasurer Robin Lockman and Payroll Administrator Colleen Price also submitted their resignations last week. Price will continue to serve until May 1, while Lockman's last day will be June 1. Orr said Monday that some turnover is to be expected with the change in administrations. ''While it may look to the public like it all happened at once, I don't think it was orchestrated or planned," Orr said Monday. "It just is what it is," she said, adding the work on the budget will move forward.

She said a CPA firm is meeting with the city today (Monday). The Mayor said that as of Monday work on the new budget is about 85 percent complete, so "we're in good shape."

The City Council must approve the budget for the upcoming fiscal year by July 1, when it takes effect.
