A report recently compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department shows a decrease in crime so far this year. The statistics compare crime numbers from January-October 2013 with January-October 2012.

The decrease in crime can be attributed to the Cheyenne Police Department being fully staffed for the first time in years. With more man power at the department’s disposal, police officers are able to proactively attack problem areas. “We saw a 12 percent decrease in traffic crashes, which is a direct result of officers performing proactive prevention activities,” said Police Chief Brian Kozak.

There was not a decrease in every crime category. With the Cheyenne Police Department creating its first full-time DUI enforcement officer this year, it is not a surprise that the number of DUI arrests has increased by 39 percent.
