Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says people carrying guns shouldn't try to shoot bankrobbers and similar criminals.

The chief says first of all he advises people against carrying guns openly, even though it is legal in Wyoming. The chief says guns are best kept concealed, so that no one else knows you are armed.

Kozak says if you are armed and see a crime taking place involving guns, the best thing you can do is be a good witness, observe as many details as possible, and then call police.

The chief says firearms should be used for ''personal defense, as a last resort" and not for public shootouts with armed criminals unless there are lives on the line and using your weapon is unavoidable.
