The Cheyenne Police Department is now fully staffed with the addition of two new officers.

The new officers, David Zamora and Laura Michael,  were hired a few weeks back, but have only recently completed their training at the state Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas.

Police Department spokesman Dan Long says staffing can be a challenge because of the training required for new officers to replace those who leave the force. The department has also frequently been operating under full strength in recent years because of officers serving in the military.

The new officers are currently on the streets with veteran police as part of their field training program. Even though the department doesn't have any current openings, people interested in becoming police officers are still encouraged to apply as veteran officers may leave over time.
