The Cheyenne Police Department K9 unit recently spent five days in Casper for the Wyoming Police Service Dog Association certifications.

Officer Dan Long says a pair of CPD dogs and their handlers earned high scores. K9 Capo and handler Officer Koeppel received the top score in patrol certification. Meanwhile K9 Ruger and handler Officer Wellman placed second for overall narcotic detection and patrol application.

Long says the dogs and their handlers were tested in a number of situations involving skills such as building searches, finding fleeing suspects both in and out of sight and finding hidden drugs.
