Cheyenne residents looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang may get a bust if they decide to shoot off fireworks.

"Fireworks within the city limits are illegal," said Cheyenne Police Officer Dan Long. "Any kind of discharge or possession of fireworks is against city ordinance."

Long says many people disagree with the city-wide ban and refuse to honor it.

"As we get closer to the Fourth of July we get more and more calls on fireworks," said Long. "And then we get a lot of calls on the Fourth of July for fireworks violations."

Long says anyone caught breaking the law will be fined $225 and have their fireworks confiscated.
