The Cheyenne Police Department has lifted the accident alert that was announced Tuesday morning, April 26.

That's according to police spokesman Kevin Malatesta.

The lifting of the alert means motorists in the city should now follow normal procedures for reporting accidents. The CPD accident alert is implemented during times when a high number of calls coming into the department makes it impossible for officers to respond normally to accident calls.

It is most commonly used during severe winter storms.

When the alert is in effect motorists are asked to not immediately report car accidents to police except in cases of serious injury, crashes involving drunk drivers or when the accident is blocking traffic.

For all other accidents drivers can fill out a delayed accident report, which is available in the police department lobby.
