A common phony warrant phone scam is surfacing again in Laramie County, according to a spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department.

The scam features someone pretending to be either a law enforcement officer or court official calling people up and telling them they are about to be arrested for a supposed outstanding warrant.

But the victim is told they can avoid arrest by paying a fine immediately. The caller demands payment using anything from a money transfer to an iTunes gift card, in some cases asking the victim to to take a photo of the gift card and pin number and send the photo electronically.

Legitimate warrants aren't paid using iTune gift cards, and payments aren't made to individual law enforcement or court officers.
