A new report from the Cheyenne Police Department shows overall crime in the city was down by 27 percent in 2013 compared to 2012.

The same report shows violent crime decreased by 44 percent and car crashes declined by 27 percent. The report says "part one" crimes, which include homicide, rape, aggravated assault and several other serious offenses, were down in every category except homicide and burglary.

The city had one homicide last year, compared to none in 2012, and burglaries increased by nine. But aggravated assaults in the city declined by 43, and reported robberies decreased by 39.

Officer Dan Long says the biggest areas of concern in the report were arrests for possession of methamphetamine, up by 48, and possession of marijuana, where there were 24 more arrests made last year compared to 2012.

The full report can be seen at the Cheyenne Police Department website.
