Do you recycle your aluminum cans?

With the City of Cheyenne's efficient recycling program picking up those blue-topped bins twice monthly, not as many people are taking their cans in to collect cash.

I had a flashback to my youth earlier this week when I took a load of cans in to recycle. While growing up in west Cheyenne, we'd use a sledgehammer to crush our aluminum cans to get the most into each big black trash bag so we could haul it down and collect some money (so we could buy more cans).

At Cheyenne Recycling, 809 West College Drive, the going price for aluminum had doubled since the last time I was in, it was a whopping 50 cents per pound. Jacob, who helped unload my aluminum, said it had been surprisingly busy lately.

He said his kids collect aluminum cans at their house and over a year, they can earn as much as $100 to add to their bank accounts. Give your kids something to do and a way to turn some of their trash into cash while helping to clean up the environment.

Cheyenne Recycling also takes radiators, vehicle batteries, electric motors and other metals like copper, brass, wire and scrap iron.
