Today in Cheyenne, hundreds of people will line up for tomorrow's grand opening of our very own Chick Fil-A. They started loitering...er, lining up...yesterday. With all due respect to Chick Fil-A, those people are standing in the wrong line.

Sure, Chick Fil-A serves a decent chicken sandwich and 100 of those people will win free food for a year. And, admittedly, the new franchise will only help the local economy. But the arrival of another chain restaurant shouldn't be greeted with a community wide celebration.

A few miles down the street, the new Cheyenne Brewing Company will open its doors today. While business will be brisk, the new tenant in one of Cheyenne's most historic, and important, buildings won't receive nearly as much fanfare. Even if they were to offer free beer for a year to the first 100 people in their line, I doubt that lines of people would be camping outside the Depot for two days.

Chick Fil-A is ok, but Cheyenne citizens would be better served by supporting local restaurants. Plus, the Cheyenne Brewing Company serves beer. As much I love chicken, I'll take a tasty brew over a breaded chicken patty any day.
