Today, Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen announced he will "put the breaks on" the city's effort to remove a carved bear from the corner of Warren and Third Avenue. The controversy has inspired some citizens to launch an online petition encouraging the city to leave the popular carving alone.

The petition, which is posted at Thepetitonsite.com, reads "We as a community demand that Cheyenne city officials let the bear carving on warren avenue stay. Many of us in cheyenne enjoy seeing this bear carving as we drive along Warren avenue. The bear does not block the view of motorists. The bear has been there for years an was not a issue. So let's stop the city from fining the owner and making her cut the bear down."

So far, the petition has been signed by over 450 supporters in less than a day. Organizers hope to have 1,000 signatures, which they plan to present to the city this week.
